Soundcore Motion Boom Plus Soundcore's newest boombox combines 80W of power with a water-resistant case that will float on water.

Some people like their portable Bluetooth speakers in more compact dimensions, allowing them to be more discreet about their proclivity to loud music. Others prefer to make no bones about it, carrying the most obnoxiously boombox-looking contraption they can find. The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is for that latter group of folks.

That’s right, Anker’s audio sub-brand is churning out a new version of their modern boombox, allowing you to hit the streets with a large speaker in a form factor straight out of breakdancing movies from the 1980s. Whether you want to roll around town like an 80s teenager with a boombox in tow or simply want to turn up the volume to levels those puny Bluetooth speakers won’t handle, this thing lets you do that in a decidedly modern rig.

The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is the successor to the outfit’s Motion Boom from a couple years back, retaining the same boombox styling as its predecessor, all while bringing a lot more power. How much power? Well, the new speaker comes with two 3.5-inch woofers backed up with 30 watts of amplification each, as well as two 1-inch tweeters with 10W amplifiers, allowing this thing to blow you away with 80W of booming sound. Seriously, you can take thing to the noisiest places and drown out the rumblings with your favorite tunes. It’s also got passive bass radiators at each end of the enclosure, ensuring it delivers crystal-clear sound on the low- , mid- , and high-end frequencies alike.

So you don’t mistake it for anything but a boombox, it comes with a wide body reminiscent of those portable stereo speakers of old, complete with an integrated handle, so you can carry it around in hand just like the boomboxes of old. There’s also a removable shoulder strap if you prefer freeing up your hand when handling the speaker.

The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus has a 13,400 mAh battery that gives it up to 20 hours of playtime between charges, allowing you to pump loud music for nearly an entire day without having to plug in to a power outlet. Since that’s a pretty big battery, the outfit decided to put USB slots in there that allow you to charge smartphones and devices from it like a typical power bank, giving it additional function for those times you’re spending outdoors. Speaking of outdoors, it’s clad in a housing that’s waterproof and dustproof according to IP67 standards, allowing you to take it to the beach, the pool, and, pretty much, anywhere without worries. Heck, it even floats when you drop it in the water, so you can load it in the kayak to enjoy some music while paddling away.

In case the 80W power isn’t loud enough for your huge party, there’s also a PartyCast feature that will allow you to pair up to 100 compatible speakers together, so they can all play music in sync from the same audio source. Other features include upgrade titanium rivers, a companion app with user-adjustable EQ, Bluetooth 5.3, and a 3.5mm input.

The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus comes out May 30, priced at $179.99.
