Aventon Ramblas Aventon's newest ebike is built for the trail, bringing a whopping 74 pound-feet of torque to help you clear those uphill climbs.

Aventon is best known for making good quality electric bikes at reasonably affordable prices, making them quite the practical way for people to get around the city on electric bicycles. This time around, though, they’re taking a break from their usual commuters and road bikes with the Aventon Ramblas, a full-fledged electric MTB for taking to the off-road.

Instead of reprising their usual designs with MTB components, the new electric mountain bike is built with an entirely new powertrain design. Specifically, they’re equipping it with a mid-drive motor and battery setup – a big departure from their standard hub motor setups. While they don’t exactly explain the reasoning behind this change, we’re guessing that placement made it easier to reinforce the motor and battery housing, which it will probably need the bike is going to be subjected to the rigors of the off-road.

The Aventon Ramblas also doesn’t follow the same model of operation as the outfit’s previous ebikes, which allowed for full throttle operation up to 20 mph. Instead, this one is purely pedal assist, which, we guess, will help you stretch that battery life to make sure you don’t get stuck in the middle of the woods. It also won’t come with the app-based upgrade to 28 mph that’s available in their other ebikes.

It’s powered by the outfit’s A100 motor, which produces 250 watts of sustained power and 750W of peak power, which is hooked up to a 36V 708Wh battery. According to the outfit, this setup produces a whopping 74 pound-feet of torque, which is downright impressive for an electric mountain bike, ensuring this thing will offer a lot of help during your uphill climbs. Apparently, while there are fixed limits to the speed for ebikes, torque ratings are fully unregulated, so they took advantage and gave it the kind of muscle that will prove really handy in the trail. The battery, by the way, enables up to 80 miles of range.

The Aventon Ramblas has three levels of pedal assist, namely eco, trail, and turbo, with buttons on the handlebar allowing you to quickly make the switch. It’s further customizable through the companion app (iOS and Android), which allows you to assign any of five available levels to each of the pedal assist settings, while a full-color LCD display lets you check on current ride settings and battery level. All the electronics, by the way, are held inside a waterproof housing, so you can ride through water crossings without worries about damaging them.

The bike is built around a dual-triangle hardtail aluminum frame, with a RockShox 35 Silver TK fork with 130 mm of travel, SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, 29-inch wheels, 2.4-inch wide Maxxis Recon MTB tires, and SRAM four-piston hydraulic disc brakes. Yep, this thing is equipped to handle the trail. Other features include a dropper seatpost (150 mm of adjustments), alloy pedals, lock-on grips, maximum weight capacity of 300 pounds, and clamp-on front headlights. It weighs 54 pounds.

The Aventon Ramblas is available now, priced at $2,699.
