Most jeans are hardwearing enough to survive a host of rugged activities. Not all of them, however, can handle rough abuse the way some activities will inflict on your trousers. For those situations, you need something like Outlier’s Strong Dungarees.
Instead of using traditional twill, the garment is cut in a material called Strongtwill, which is made from dozens upon dozens of extremely fine nylon 6,6 filaments that are twisted into a single yarn, ensuring it can resist abrasion and tearing better than most any jeans in your closet. To ensure it wears comfortably during activities, they threw in a hint of elastane into the mix to give it a modest two-way stretch.
Despite the unusually tough nylon material, Outlier claims the Strong Dungarees bear the soft feel of fine fiber, with a texture that’s going to get even softer over time. It comes in a straight leg fit to ensure comfortable wear, with a knee-length gusseted crotch, so you can do a leg split without having to hear a tearing sound. DWR treatment ensures it can handle water better than ordinary jeans, too, making it suitable for a whole host of outdoor activities, no matter the weather.
Features include an electrostatic rubber-plated brass shank, brushed stainless steel rivets, and a traditional five-pocket profile. Do note, it’s designed to shrink in length after the first washing, so make sure to break it in first before getting the hem cut.
Available now, the Outlier Strong Dungarees are priced at $175.
