Compared to trendier bicycles, commuter bikes tend to hum along mostly unnoticed. They’re the kind that pride themselves in day-to-day comfort and utility, after all, rather than regaling you with the promise of extreme and exciting adventures. Good commuter bikes, though, can be just as fun to ride as your favorite adventure rig and few have received more praise on that end than the Scott Sub Speed 10.

To the unfamiliar, the “Sub” in the name refers to “Speed utility bikes,” a line that Scott started 10 years ago and continued improving over the years. With a narrow-minded focus on comfort and agility, the line has become a road favorite over that time, with the Sub Speed 10 lording it over as its top-spec model.

Like previous iterations, the latest Scott Sub Speed 10 bills itself as a low-maintenance modern urban bike. It sports an aluminum frame that’s both lightweight and durable, with a relaxed frame geometry and wide 37mm tires that should keep you comfortable, whether you’re riding a couple of blocks or way over to the other side of town. Features include integrated fenders both front and rear, a Gates belt drive, an eight-speed Alfine hub, mechanical disc brakes, and a wide pallet of color choices. It doesn’t come with a rack like a lot of commuter bikes, but you can always throw in one, in case you need to transport a load of cargo for the day.
