Riding your mountain bike on a backwoods trail is fun. Having to slow down to get around hikers or ask them to move so you can pass, on the other hand, not so much. Timber thinks their Trail Awareness Mountain Bike Bell offers a better alternative.

Like regular bike bells, it’s designed to signal people out front that you’re coming through, so they can move out of the way to let you pass. Unlike them, it’s designed strictly for the backwoods environment, so it’s both quieter (you don’t need to compete with the bustling sounds of the city, after all) and easier to operate.

The Timber Trail Awareness Mountain Bike Bell doesn’t need to be rung every time you want the internal clappers to make a sound. Instead, you simply turn the bell on when you want it to make a sound and turn it off to go back to riding in silence. That’s because the bike’s movement along the off-road trail is enough to activate the clappers, so it will keep making sounds while you pedal until you finally switch it off. It comes with two loudness settings, so you can make it softer for really quiet spots and louder for noisier trails (note: neither of the sounds are likely to be audible in high-traffic cities, so it’s strictly for trail riding).

A rubber O-ring allows you to easily mount the bell onto a bike’s handlebars (or grip for even easier access) with no tools necessary. Each one comes with two sizes of O-rings to accommodate all handlebar sizes.

Available now, the Timber Trail Awareness Mountain Bike Bell is priced at $20.
