Simms Dockwear Tote Simms' 40-liter tote bag is durable enough to carry heavy gear, while being water-resistant enough to use in and around the water.

Sometimes, a backpack is the best bag for the job. Other times, a catch-all container that will let you easily dump and retrieve anything at will while you’re on the go will serve you best. It’s those latter times when the Simms Dockwear Tote comes in handy.

Billed as a “classic utilitarian tote bag,” it brings the convenience of totes in a durable and water-resistant shell, making it suitable for tasks in both the city and backcountry alike. Need a bag to hold all those beer cans and spirit bottles you’re buying for the party tonight? This thing will do the trick. How about a bag to carry your fishing garments while you drive to your local fishing spot? This will work for that, too. Looking for a bag to carry supplies for an afternoon at the beach? Seriously, this looks perfect for that, as well.

The Simms Dockwear Tote is an erstwhile traditional tote with a boxy profile, albeit in a bigger-than-usual size measuring 17 x 16 x 8 inches (height x width x depth). It holds 40 liters’ worth of gear inside the zippered main compartment, so you can use it for everything from a day out fishing and an afternoon picnic to grocery shopping and a day of grinding at the office. We know, you never go to the office with a tote bag in tow, but this is meant to be functional as a work bag, too, especially with the integrated padded sleeves for laptops and tablets inside the main compartment. Even better, it can accommodate large laptops up to 17 inches and the largest consumer tablets (those 12-inch behemoths), all while leaving room for a whole host of other gear, so this could be a great work bag for folks who bring a lot of stuff with them.

Aside from the laptop and tablet sleeves, it has additional organizational pockets inside for smaller stuff you don’t want to end up buried in a heap of gear. There’s also zippered pockets outside for any items you want to keep within immediate reach.

The Simms Dockwear Tote is made from burly Cordura Oxford, a 1000D fabric with DWR coating, so it’s durable enough to withstand most anything the outdoors can offer, while being water-resistant enough to keep your stuff dry even in inclement weather. It’s lined with 200D polyester, so it shouldn’t get easily damaged from the inside, either, while the sleeves are covered in brushed flannel to keep your electronic devices protected. You can carry it in hand or over one shoulder using the wrapped and reinforced nylon webbing handles.

This tote, by the way, is part of fishing brand Simms’ new Dockwear collection, a lineup of lifestyle pieces, such as clothes, bags, and hats, designed to handle the fall weather. So yeah, this thing is designed to function in and around the water, making it suitable for the rainy days you’ll probably encounter in the coming weeks.

The Simms Dockwear Tote comes in two colors: carbon and dark bronze. Price is $89.95.
