Yes, you can use your pocket knife to free yourself from a jammed seat belt during accidents. Problem is, it’s not an ideal form factor for that specific job, ensuring you’ll waste precious time in the process of getting the job done. That won’t be the case with RMJ Tactical’s URIB Emergency Tool, a specialty knife optimized for easily cutting through seat belts and ropes.

Short for “Urban Rescue Interchangeable Blade,” it’s a knife that’s been custom-designed for local firefighters, who requested a specialized tool during rescue missions. Initially, they were going to do a variation of CRKT’s No Bother Knife (which RMJ also designed), although a few more ideas and they came up with an entirely new style of tool.

The RMJ URIB Emergency Tool has a curved spine between the blade and the handle, making it ideal for inserting under seatbelts and similar bindings in order to cut them off. Because of the unusual form, the user is able to get maximum cutting leverage while completely shielding the trapped person from the blade (they recommend a reverse grip when rescuing someone or a front grip if you’re rescuing yourself), minimizing the chances of any untoward accidents.

It uses Rapid Edge serrated blades that can be quickly replaced once it’s dulled by simply loosening the two 18-8 stainless steel screws holding it in place. Features include a total length of 7.5 inches, 6061 aluminum construction, “Sniper Gray” Cerakote finish, and an included Kydex scabbard.

Available now, the RMJ URIB Emergency Tool is priced at $85.
