There’s nothing easy about adventure motorcycling. Hustling heavy expedition bikes across off-road terrains in the middle of nowhere for hours on end is exhausting. Not to mention, very dangerous. That’s why you need the best protection from head to toe. As far as extreme enduro jackets go, it’s going to be tough doing one better than the Rev’It Dominator GTX.

Designed for long-haul riders, the jacket combines the highest level of safety armoring with the ability to play nice with a wide range of weather conditions. Made from a breathable and waterproof 600D Cordura fabric, it should keep you reasonably comfortable, whether you’re riding through a scorching hot desert or braving a slippery trail in the middle of a downpour. More importantly, it delivers superior tear and abrasion resistance, so the jacket should stay intact even through multiple falls (and, yes, if you ride slippery trails in the rain, you’ll likely fall).

For armoring, the Rev’It Dominator GTX uses a SEESOFT insert for the back and SEEFLEX protectors at the shoulders and elbows, with all of them meeting the highest safety standard CE Level 2 rating. For added reinforcement, the jacket uses panels of Kevlar-reinforced Armacor to cover the areas that commonly receive most damage during slides, along with safety seams on areas that frequently receive impact. Features include stretch panels in key areas for flexibility, magnetically-fastened panels that can be opened for extra ventilation during hotter days, a detachable kidney belt for added stability to the lower back, and over half a dozen pockets for keeping small items on hand.

Unfortunately, this level of safety and versatility doesn’t come cheap. The Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket is priced at $1,249.

  1. Crotch rockets don;t appeal to me. The traditional Harley style cruiser doesn’t appeal to me. What type of bike does appeal to me? The motorcycles that are designed for both highway use as well as off-road adventures. I would love to get a bike that fits this and spend a summer cruising around Alaska. If I ever get one, the Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket looks like a formidable jacket.

    The Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket would work great for riding since it could be used both on paved roads as well as off-roading, while providing ample protection in both scenarios.

    The Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket comes with a detachable kidney belt so you can have added back support. Is this common with motorcycle jackets like these? I haven’t heard of this feature before. It looks like the Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket would be comfortable for extremely long rides. Some jackets only provide enough comfort to ride down the block to the bar.

  2. I like that big functional pocket on the bag of the jacket.

    Crotch rockets don’t appeal to me either. It’s one thing to fall and slide on some offroad trail but these guys that are hitting 100 mph or more on the interstate are crazy, or stupid. One little mistake or if a car swerves lanes then they are dead or severely injured, regardless of what protection they may have.

    The Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket does look very good, but who cares right? Because once you start utilizing this jacket it will get worn in and soiled, but that is OK. We ride to have fun and explore, not to look good. Of course if we do have to pick a jacket for looks, the Rev’It Dominator GTX Jacket does look very nice, especially for a motojacket for long-term exploration.
