Sometimes, it rains while you’re in the middle of a hike. Other times, that rain turns into a veritable storm. That’s when having a garment like the REI Stormrealm Jacket will come in handy.

Designed to keep you dry and comfortable in the middle of the storm, the jacket is designed to keep all water out, all while resisting strong winds of up to 50 mph. And while it’s always a better idea to make camp and wait out a storm in a badass tent, this thing should keep you duly-equipped to face one if you do decide to go back out on the trail.

The REI Stormrealm Jacket is made from a mid-weight three-layer fabric that’s waterproof while being highly breathable, along with pit zips, so it never gets too hot underneath. To keep things comfortable, it comes with an interior storm guard to block drafts, a chin guard to keep the zipper from rubbing on your neck, and underarm gussets to enable a full range of motion. A two-point adjustable hood keeps your noggin from taking any water, with a built-in visor blocking wind and rain from interfering with your field of vision.

Features include higher-than-usual zippered hand pockets to keep it clear of your bag’s hip belt, an adjustable hem drawcord that seals in warmth, hook-and-loop cuffs with raised touch points for easy adjustments, and a zippered chest pocket. It comes in two colors: black and blue.

Available now, the REI Stormrealm Jacket is priced at $249.
