When it comes to denim outerwear, it’s hard to look further than Levi’s Type Three Trucker Jacket, but that doesn’t mean you can’t alternate it with a few other garments in your closet. This Railcar Deuce X021 Jacket, for instance, should make a fine occasional substitute to the classic staple.

Like we said, it’s hard to veer too far from Levi’s when it comes to denim jackets. As such, this piece is actually based on the original Type Two Jacket from the 1950s, retaining the classic’s mid-chest pocket and mid-waistline design, while cleaning it up with no unnecessary pleats and buckles to create a more minimalist aesthetic.

The Railcar Deuce X021 Jacket is constructed from high-quality 14.25-ounce Japanese dark indigo red line selvedge, which sports a patchy sheen that’s designed to look better over time. It bears a somewhat dressier appearance than the traditional trucker jacket, with a cut that’s fitted but not cropped, making it an excellent piece for inserting into your regular wardrobe rotation. Made with durable wear in mind, it boasts a two-piece waistband with tucked and terminated chain stitches, triple-stitched felled seams (body, chest and shoulders), and copper hardware, with extra selvedge material in the interior lining at the back, the inner front chest, and the exterior pockets. Each piece is made in-house at Railcar Fine Good’s factory in Monrovia, California.

Available now, the Railcar Deuce X021 is priced at $248.
