We’re big fans of string lights and their versatile form factor that you can hang, bundle, and spread out in a myriad of ways, all while being very easy to squeeze into small compartments for easy portability. All of those things hold true for the Nite Ize Radiant Rechargeable ShineLine, with the addition of full-length lighting to ensure maximum visibility in the darkest conditions.
That’s right, Nite Ize is joining the string light category, bringing an option that’s fully illuminated all the way through, so there are no dead spots anywhere across its length. Whether you need an all-around light for use around camp, a light you can wrap around your mountain bike to keep you visible at night, or a versatile light to keep in the toolbox for any emergencies that come up, this thing should make a viable option for that and a whole lot more.
The Nite Ize Radiant Rechargeable ShineLine is a LED-powered lighting product that fires its light through a 10-foot long fiber optic cable, allowing it to achieve full-length illumination that emanates light from end-to-end without any break. There’s no listing on the actual brightness of this radiant rope, although based on photos and videos, it appears to be a very subtle and diffused light that’s good enough if you want some gentle illumination at night, but not quite enough for use in situations where a proper task light will be needed. In case it’s all you have on hand, though, you can always bundle the rope to concentrate the light, although its diffused nature should make it tougher to use for more light-demanding tasks.
The string light comes with a quartet of the outfit’s popular Gear Ties, which you can use to easily mount them onto practically anything you want. To the unfamiliar, Gear Ties are reusable wires that can be easily twisted to secure around any fixture, making it easy to mount the light onto trees, tent poles, and whatever else is available in the vicinity.
The Nite Ize Radiant Rechargeable ShineLine comes with two modes, glow and flash, the former for use as gentle illumination and the latter for use as a visibility tool, with controls easily accessible via a button at one end. Since it’s meant for outdoor use, the whole thing is water-resistant, so you can hang it up to light up the camp, regardless of the prevailing weather. It has an integrated battery, by the way, that can keep it running for six hours between charges, with the ability to stay illuminated even while charging from any USB power source. According to the outfit, it can charge from empty to full in around 1.5 hours.
The string light is available with either green, blue, or white LEDs, with the latter likely the most versatile if you want to use it in your outdoor adventures. And since it’s, basically, a rope, you can just bundle it and slip it into any pouch on your pack, making it dead simple to bring along, regardless of how much stuff you’re already carrying.
The Nite Ize Radiant Rechargeable ShineLine comes out mid-February.
