Unless you’re a high-level professional who makes your living taking pictures, there’s a good chance you don’t need a camera as powerful as the Nikon D5. If you want the best tools at your disposal, though, then this top-of-the-line professional DSLR is exactly the shooter you want to have in your gear bag.

Described as a “DSLR that makes the impossible possible,” the new full-frame flagship is the kind of camera you can use to push things to their absolute limit. Armed with “huge advancements” in sensor design, metering, and image processing, Nikon claims the camera’s tech should open a whole new avenue of shooting possibilities, regardless of what scene you’re trying to capture.

The Nikon D5 has a 20.8MP full frame image sensor that can shoot up to 12 fps with autofocus and 14 fps without it. It boasts the widest ever native ISO range for a Nikon camera (100 to 102,400), along with the highest ever expanded range (up to Hi-5 ISO 3,280,000), making it perfect for nighttime shooting, whether you’re capturing nocturnal nature scenes or conducting surveillance as an amateur detective. A redesigned autofocus system using 99 cross-type sensors and a dedicated processor allow it a whopping 153 focus points, with a new shutter and mirror sequencing mechanism minimizing blackout time and mirror slap during high-speed capture. Features include EXPEED 5 image processing engine, a buffer that can handle up to 200 RAW images in one high-speed burst, 4K video capture, built-in stereo mic with 20-increment adjustments, and a 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD (XGA resolution).
