People who compete at the highest level in decathlons are often described as the world’s best athletes. While you can argue the merits of that opinion, there’s no question that high-level decathletes are amazing physical specimens. So if you’re going to make a training shoe, why not get input from the best decathlete in the world? That’s exactly what Nike did with the Lunar Caldra, which debuts in a new Gold colorway.

Designed and developed by reigning world champion Ashton Eaton, it’s the same shoe he wore to win the gold last August, but in a whole new color that looks flashy enough to feature in a rap video. Don’t let that fool you, though, this is a serious training shoe that’s designed to perform, whether you’re doing preparations for a 10k event, running speed drills at the track, or circuit training at the gym.

Described as a “dynamic training shoe,” the Nike Lunar Caldra Gold is optimized for running, jumping, and cutting, making for an all-around killer pair of trainers. Sporting a secure fit, it should enable the quickest launches, with a Lunarlon midsole lending its cushion to soften your landings. It uses Flywire for the upper to deliver an adaptive and dynamic fit, with its woven construction providing proper ventilation for the feet. That upper pairs with a rubber outsole and a flat heel for excellent stability and traction, along with hexagonal grooves on the forefoot to enable natural foot movement.
