Mercedes just announced their new flagship convertible coupe. Based on the S-Class convertible, the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet combines the pleasures of open top driving with some heavy performance chops. Bringing, pretty much, all the best features at the top of the German marquee’s range, this is the ultimate drop-top Mercedes.
Under the hood sits AMG’s largest engine – a 6-liter, twin-turbo V12 that puts out 630 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, it powers the car to a 0 to 60 acceleration of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (186 mph, if you go for the optional, high-performance AMG Driver’s Package) with the top down. Complementing the engine is a sport-tuned air suspension that allows for direct driving response, electro-mechanical sport steering, and the full range of the outfit’s Driving Assistance tech.
The Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has a fully automatic three-layer fabric top that can electro-hydraulically open and close in 17 seconds, sporting the design contours of a coupe’s roofline whenever it’s deployed. High-sheen chrome accents dominate the car’s exterior, making for a seriously attractive contrast with a dark paint finish. It’s, literally, everywhere, from the twin-blade radiator grille to the side flics to the large Mercedes star on the front apron. Inside, the familiar S-Class cabriolet creature comforts are in tow, including nappa leather upholstery, AIRCAP wind protection system, AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, heated armrests, intelligent climate control, and a Burmester 3D surround-sound setup.
No pricing yet, but the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is slated to launch in May.
