There’s no shortage of camping lanterns out there that are compact enough to fit in your pack, while providing 360-degree illumination at the campsite. They’re extremely useful. You know what there seems to be a shortage of? A LED tube light that’s designed for the outdoors. That’s exactly what you get with the Klymit Everglow Light Tube.
Yes, tube lights aren’t the most ideal form factor for camping, with their long profile making them just downright awkward to fit in most packs, which is why we don’t see a lot of them. They are, however, extremely useful, as they can diffuse the light across a wider area, making it possible to illuminate a big patch of space. To make tube lights viable, the outfit cast it in inflatable TPU shell, allowing you to deflate it small enough to fit in an external pouch on your backpack for easy portability.
The Klymit Everglow Light Tube is an inflatable light tube that, when collapsed, can serve as a standard camp lantern that provides omnidirectional lighting. That’s right, it collapses to compact lantern-like size that can disperse light across all directions, making it ideal for setting down on a table when you’re gathered together at camp. When inflated into a tube light, it’s divided into two halves, with the front covered in a transparent surface to let light out and the back covered in an opaque material, making it ideal for use as diffused overhead lighting. At the back sits a Hypalon carabiner loop that lets you hang it on an awning, a raised car door, or the top of your tent, among other places, making it easy to set up wherever you need a good amount of lighting.
It’s equipped with bright white LED light that’s powered by a 5V USB connection, allowing you to hook it up to any power bank for hours upon hours of highly-efficient lighting. There’s no onboard battery, by the way, so you’re going to need to have a power bank or some other USB power source in order to use this.
The Klymit Everglow Light Tube comes in three sizes: regular (18 x 3 inches, length x diameter), large (26 x 3 inches), and extra-large (34 x 4.7 inches). Total brightness, naturally, varies, depending on which one you get, with the regular rated at 160 lumens, the large at 220 lumens, and the extra-large at 270 lumens. The two larger models also get a dimmer switch along the USB cable, allowing you to control the brightness with a few button presses, along with magnetic attachment points to give you even more mounting options.
Because it’s an inflatable, the tube can be bent as needed, which should allow you to use the light in slightly more unconventional ways, depending on your specific needs. And since this is designed for camping and other outdoor settings, it’s water resistant, allowing it to catch some splashes here and there without damaging the integrated electronics.
The Klymit Everglow Light Tube is available now, priced starting at $19.95.
