IKEA Giant Allen Wrench Flashlight IKEA made a flashlight in an oversized likeness of their Allen key. And it looks prettier than we expected.

If you buy tables, chairs, and shelves from IKEA, then you should be well-acquainted with the Allen key, the tiny tool you use to assemble most of their flat-packed furniture. While small and quite simple, it’s a heck of a handy tool, allowing you to outfit a large room with proper furniture with just a few turns. Well… as proper as you consider IKEA furniture to be anyway. The IKEA Giant Allen Wrench Flashlight pays tribute to their humble tool.

Made by the outfit for the IKEA Art Event 2021, it’s a blown-up version of the Allen key that you can use to assemble giant furniture using giant screws. That is, if the outfit ever decides to make giant furniture. In the meantime, it should make for a strange-looking flashlight, a fancy shelf display, or a blunt weapon for self-defense, making it one interesting keepsake from the world’s largest furniture retailer.

The IKEA Giant Allen Wrench Flashlight supersizes the Allen key to 7.75 x 4.75 x 1.25 inches (length x width x thickness), making it unlikely to be used for actually putting together IKEA furniture. It’s designed to adhere to the tool’s standard proportions, so you won’t mistake it for anything but a beefed-up version of the classic tool. Instead of a humdrum industrial coat, it comes in a sleek shiny blue or silver finish, making it fancy-looking enough for showing off on a living room shelf.

As the name indicates, it’s designed to serve as a flashlight and comes fitted with a LED light source at one end, which is powered using a pair of AA batteries. Naturally, IKEA is recommending using theirs. The body, by the way, is made from aluminum, so it should feel as sturdy as the regular tool, all while coming rated to IP44 standards, so it should shrug off splashes and moisture.

The IKEA Giant Allen Wrench Flashlight is available now, priced at $29.99.
