We love the collaborations Greats have been doing with their Wooster silhouette, giving the versatile slip-on a wide selection of styles to choose from. Their latest collaboration with United Arrows & Sons cover the footwear in one of the Japanese label’s archival sashiko fabrics, turning out a design that looks right at home with a pair of dark jeans or chinos for any casual activity.
To the unfamiliar, “sashiko” is a Japanese word that translates to “little stabs.” In this case, it refers to the Japanese fabric’s decorative stitching, which is traditionally used in quilting and reinforcing various points of wear on a garment, an element that prominently appears on the front part of the shoe upper.
Billed as a mix of “quintessentially American design, Japanese materials, and Italian manufacturing,” the Greats x United Arrows & Sons Wooster pairs the familiar silhouette with an upper that features sashiko fabric on the front and heel, with vegetable-tanned Italian leather on the sides. The sashiko fabric uses white stitching on an indigo base, which creates an attractive contrast with the leather’s subtle tan. That upper sits atop an off-white Margom sole that only helps to accentuate the pattern and coloring blocking created by the upper materials. Features include a custom brass United Arrows & Sons ampersand logo snap on the heel, vachetta leather lining, and a custom Greats x United Arrows & Sons branding on the footbed.
Available now, the Greats x United Arrows & Sons Wooster is priced at $259.
