Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Watch Aside from a gauge-inspired dial, Christopher Ward's ode to the Jaguar D-Type comes with a piece of metal from one of the original racers.

Less than 100 D-Type Jaguars have been made during the four years it was in production in the 1950s, making it quite the rare exotic in automotive history. Eighteen of those vehicles were factory team cars that competed at Le Mans in 1955, 1956, and 1957.  Each example of the Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Watch comes with a piece of metal taken from one of those 18 cars, literally equipping it with a genuine piece of racing memorabilia.

Don’t worry, they didn’t slap a rusty piece of metal on the watch. Instead, it’s been laser-cut into an element resembling the alloy on the race car’s wheel and wheel-spinner, which you can check out sitting next to the ETA movement through the viewing window on the case back.

The Christopher Ward C9 D-Type embraces its racing heritage with a dial based on the speedometer of the classic Jaguar racer, complete with a mid-century font and a fuel-themed power reserve indicator, ensuring any automotive fan is bound to notice the retro gauge-inspired styling. It comes with 43mm case, so it’s a substantial presence on the wrist, with ETA’s Valgranges A07.161 self-winding movement powering the timekeeping action.

Features include sapphire lenses both front and back, signature racing decal design at the 12 o’clock, a 46-hour power reserve, a unique serial number on the backplate, and Côtes de Genève stripes on the rotor for added aesthetics. It comes with a 22mm black Peccary leather band.

Only 55 examples of the Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Watch will be made, each one priced at £2,995.
