Do you use the calendar function on your phone more than any other app? Then it might be time to put on a smartwatch to get regular updates on your daily schedule right on your wrist. If a faux-analog timepiece doesn’t quite stroke your fire, though, you might be interested in the Calendar Watch, a traditional-looking mechanical timepiece that cleverly integrates calendar notifications from your phone.
No, it’s not quite a full-fledged smartwatch, but with a calendar function in tow, it’s a definite step up in the utility department, allowing you to check your daily schedule at any time without having to pull out a phone. And, yes, it does that while looking like nothing more than a regular analog watch, with no obvious hints of its notification talents.
The Calendar Watch uses real mechanical hands, although the dial backing is made from an e-paper display that regularly syncs its output to reflect the entries in your calendar app of choice. Since filling the dial with actual calendar entries the way they’re displayed in apps is likely to ruin the analog aesthetic, it uses a block-based chart that appears more like a traditional watch dial than a calendar display. Basically, it divides the dial into several light-colored and dark-colored sections, with the former indicating times where you have nothing on the calendar and the latter pointing out the blocks of time where you have scheduled appointments. Since a watch only shows 12 hours, it divides your schedule in two 12-hour blocks, which you can switch between by simply double-tapping on the crystal. A triple tap causes the calendar to sync.
The watch vibrates whenever time ticks around to one of the dark-colored blocks, alerting you that you have something on your schedule at that exact moment. Features include a stainless steel case, domed sapphire crystal, 5ATM of water resistance, and a rechargeable battery good for three weeks of use.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Calendar Watch. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at €240.
