Bring Big Screen Viewing To Any Room In Your Home With These 4K Projectors Want big screen viewing, don't want the hassle that goes with maintaining a giant TV? Have an easier time with these 4K projectors.

Yes, big 4K TVs are pretty cheap now. While those big UHD screens make for immersive viewing, you have to admit, they’re quite cumbersome, making them a pain when you want to rearrange the living room or move to a new place. If you don’t want to deal with that hassle, a 4K projector can be so much easier to own, as it entirely eliminates the problems of a giant TV, all while allowing you to enjoy a similar big screen viewing experience.

Sure, 4K projectors can be so much more expensive. They can also require a proper projection screen if you want the best viewing experience. If you want to enjoy immersive viewing without being tethered to whichever room the giant TV is located, though, it’s really the only way to go.

Here are the best 4K projectors you can buy today.

BenQ CinePrime HT3550

This short-throw projector delivers 4K resolution at screen sizes of up to 200 inches, requiring just 8.2 inches of distance from the viewing surface to create a 100-inch display, although you’ll need to go further around 20 inches if you want the full 200-inch panel. We’re particularly fond of its Cinema color modes (one for a dark room and one for a room with ambient lighting), which are factory-calibrated to ensure accurate color reproduction, making it incredibly satisfying for watching films that incorporate lush cinematography into its visuals. Obviously, we still prefer the Dark Cinema mode, as projectors really do their best job without all that ambient light getting in the way.

What we really love about the HT3550, though, is that it makes high-quality 4K viewing on massive screens attainable at a relatively affordable price, giving you excellent picture quality at an entry-level price. Features include a maximum image brightness of 2,000 lumens, a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, and a six-segment color wheel (RGBRGB) that enables the excellent color reproduction.

Optoma UHD50X

While Optoma has different 4K projectors aimed at movie buffs and gamers, we find their UHD50X to offer the best balance for both. Sure, it doesn’t have the 4ms response time of their gaming-focused projector, but the 15.7ms it does at 1080p     is satisfactory enough for all but the most demanding competitive pros, who, we’re guessing, would rather be on gaming monitors than a projector anyway. Plus, it offers a 240Hz refresh rate (again, only at full HD), which should make it a great solution for watching fast-paced sporting events.

It delivers picture quality on par with the CinePrime HT3550 for watching 4K movies, all while coming in at a similar price, too. While it doesn’t have the same color calibration, it does perform better at rooms with ambient lighting, as it brings both a more intense brightness at 3,400 lumens and a higher contrast ratio of 50,000:1. This is standard throw, by the way, so you’ll need a larger room to get one of the bigger screen sizes (around 11 feet for a 120-inch image).

Epson Home Cinema 5050UB

If you’re willing to take a step up in cost, this just-under $3,000 4K projector delivers outstanding picture quality with one of the best contrast ratios we’ve seen, resulting in very dark, very deep shadows interspersed with really bright highlights that stand out. While it’s neither the brightest (it has 2,600 lumens) nor the most detailed (it uses three LCD chips, rather than a DLP), that contrast ratio really makes a significant difference, creating a cinematic feel that just isn’t there with similarly-priced DLP projectors. The projector also handles HDR really well, which helps contribute to the cinematic feel of the overall picture.

It has a motorized lens, by the way, so it supports both horizontal and vertical lens shifts, making it easier to integrate in most any room, as well as two HDMI inputs that can accept up to 4K at 60fps.  Do note, there’s no onboard speaker, so you’ll need to pair it with a soundbar or a proper receiver.

LG Cinebeam HU810PW

Armed with two lasers and a green phosphor, this native 4K projector is able to produce beautifully-detailed images with stunningly life-like color. Seriously, that color is the biggest selling point here, with deep and vibrant hues popping your way at all times, all while being extremely bright, so you can enjoy the same vivid colors even when watching with ambient light in the room. Suffice to say, when it comes to color reproduction, there’s nothing a color wheel can do against a proper laser setup. Those lasers, by the way, last a lot longer than UHP lamps, so you’ll be able to hold on to your machine without the light breaking down for far longer (in this case, it’s rated to last 20,000 hours).

While it boasts a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, it’s definitely overmatched in the contrast department by Epson’s 5050UB. Basically, this LG model produces images that are sharper with incredible color and brightness than that Epson model, although it just can’t match the uniquely stark contrast ratio, no matter what settings you fiddle with. So yeah, you can either get this to drown yourself in color or that similarly-priced model if you’d rather have the dramatic picture contrast. Either one is a good choice.

Sony VPL-VW325ES

The first “true” 4K projector in this list, it beams a picture with 4,096 x 2,160 resolution, allowing you to enjoy any kind of 4K content natively on it. Similar to the Epson 5050UB, its main strength lies in its stunning contrast ratio, which it produces using a trio of SXRD liquid crystal on silicon chips, a tech you’re not going to find on anything but the highest-end projectors. It’s aided, of course, by Sony’s elaborate image processing that produces 4K and HDR imagery that just feels richer in fine details compared to many projectors, resulting in a sharp and stunning 4K picture with a highly cinematic feel.

The catch? It only has a maximum brightness of 1,500 lumens, which is ridiculously low for a projector at this price range. This makes it unusable for anything but completely dark rooms, so you’ll want to switch off all the lights and draw all the blinds if you want a good viewing experience. If you do, though, it delivers an incredible viewing experience akin to what you’ll get in a real movie theater.

Samsung The Premiere LSP9T

This ultra-short throw projector allows you to enjoy a 130-inch screen while being mere inches away from your projection surface, making set up as hassle-free as it gets. It uses a triple laser system (one each for red, green, and blue, respectively), creating incredible color reproduction that allows its 2,800 lumens to shine across every pixel of that massive screen. Seriously, the purity of color those lasers deliver make its picture even brighter than the lumen rating suggests, making this perfectly viable for viewing even in rooms with ambient lighting. While it doesn’t do actual 4K like Sony’s SXRD-based projectors, it creates an image that’s astonishingly detailed, textured, and sharp to go with its rich and vibrant onscreen colors. Lastly, it benefits from Samsung’s numerous TV tech, such as their motion processing systems and smart TV interface.
