Some people prefer a clean look in their watch dials. Others want it to look as technically complicated as possible. If you’re a fan of Breitling’s timepieces, chances are, you belong with the latter. Chances are, that you’ll also enjoy the Breitling Navitimer 46 Blacksteel.
An all-black version of the iconic Navitimer, it dresses up the popular pilot watch in a black case, black bezel, and black dial. It’s not quite stealth since the indicators and hands come in a lighter color to keep things readable, but the blacked-out large case will sure make a rugged appearance on anyone’s wrist, whether you actually fly planes or just watch movies on your iPad every time you travel in one.
The Breitling Navitimer 46 Blacksteel actually changes the classic Navitimer dial, removing the counter on the 6 o’clock position in favor of a date window, so you get just two subdials, seconds on the 9 o’clock and 90-minute chronograph totalizer at the 3 o’clock, instead of three. As with the original, it comes with the famous rotating circular slide rule and an authentic instrument panel that’s made using the “par épargne” technique on a sterling silver base (albeit, coated in black).
The 46mm steel case is made from satin-brushed stainless steel, with an ultra-resistant carbon-based treatment giving it that deep black color. Features include a transparent caseback (where you can watch a black oscillating weight), Breitling 01 movement, glare-proof cambered sapphire crystal, three bars of water resistance, and a rubber black bracelet with a pushbutton clasp buckle.
Available now, the Breitling Navitimer 46 Blacksteel is priced at $9,225.
