BioLite HeadLamp 200 Arguably the most comfortable headlamp out there, BioLite's 200-lumen light sits flat and stays put, while wicking sweat and putting zero pressure.

There’s no shortage of headlamps in the current outdoors market, with brands both big and small staking their claim for a slice of the seemingly growing pie. Yeah, headlamps really aren’t just for miners anymore. The BioLite HeadLamp 200 looks to make its case by taking comfort to the next level.

Billed as being “so comfortable, you’ll forget you’re wearing it,” the wearable light boasts a fit that sits flat and stays put on your forehead, ensuring there won’t be any bouncing action that can distract you from whatever task you’re currently engaged in. It’s super lightweight at just 50 grams, too, which it distributes across the band by integrating the electronics directly into the fabric, so you never feel any kind of pressure anywhere on your head, making it feel like a perfectly natural part of your outdoor ensemble.

The BioLite HeadLamp 200 has a maximum output of 200 lumens. Yes, that’s way less than the all-powerful flashlight you keep in your car, but it should be enough illumination to find your way in the trail after sundown, let you see your tools while you clean them at the end of the day, and move around at camp while everyone is sleeping.  It comes with dimmable white spot and red flood lights, as well as strobe options for both colors, in case you want to call attention during an emergency. The flood light, by the way, can reach a maximum of eight meters, while the spot light can go as far as 50 meters to let you see as much of the way forward as possible.

At maximum brightness, it can only run for three straight hours with a full charge of the integrated batteries, although it can go as far as 40 hours if you use the lower brightness settings. A single button on top allows you to switch between the different light modes, while pressing and holding lets you switch between the different brightness settings. The button is pretty large, too, allowing you to operate it even with gloves on.

The BioLite HeadLamp 200 has an articulating panel holding the LEDs, allowing you to tilt it downwards for those times you’re working on something on a table, such as during food prep and cooking. The band, by the way, is made from a soft, moisture-wicking fabric that, the outfit claims, will keep your head dry and comfortable, while adjustment clips allow you to tighten it until you find the perfect fit. And yes, the headband can fit both children and adults, even with helmets on.

It has IPX4 water resistance, so you should be able to wear it at camp, on the trail, and on the boat, no matter the weather. Do note that while the lamp is water-resistant, the fabric headband isn’t hydrophobic, so it will absorb sweat and dirt, which means you will need to clean this regularly, unless you want something stinky wrapped around your head. Yeah, nobody wants that. The outfit recommends rinsing it with a mild detergent and wiping it down with a sponge.
