Three years ago, Mercedes-Benz introduced a crazy 6×6 off-roader, which, let’s be honest, is too insane to be anything more than a limited-production model. Luckily, that truck’s four-wheeled version, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4×4², is just the perfect kind of crazy.

Built to survive your off-road adventures, this beast combines 17.2 inches of ground clearance and the ability to ford up to 39.4 inches of water, ensuring you can run through most any obstacle the rugged terrains present. With boxy lines and angular corners, it looks as tough as it performs, too, making for the kind of ride that’s going to make you look badass, whether you’re driving in the city, the backcountry, or the remnants of a post-apocalypse world.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4×4² is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 416 horsepower and 450 pounds of torque. That’s enough to push it to speeds of up to 130 mph and a 0 to 60 acceleration of 5.8 seconds. It comes with a permanent all-wheel drive that can split torque evenly both front and rear, with three locking differentials ensuring it sends the power right to where it’s needed.

Since you aren’t likely to always be driving in a backcountry, the vehicles comes with a Sport Mode that, the outfit claims, drives through bends with the same dynamic feel as a sports car. Inside, it comes with typical Mercedes appointments, including an 8-inch touchscreen with the Comand infotainment system, black designo leather upholstery, and all the luxury you need to make roughing it up feel like a proper pampering.

No pricing yet, but the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4×4² hits dealers early next year.
