2017 Bentley Bentayga Bentley Bentayga marries the marquee’s signature elements into a tall and rugged off-roader, all while hitting class-topping speeds of 187 mph.

Remember that SUV concept Bentley put out that many people… uhm… didn’t really like? Well, it’s a real thing now. And while the reworked design is still likely to be an acquired taste, we actually kinda like the styling, which marries the marquee’s signature elements into a tall and rugged off-roader. Also, being the fastest SUV in the world isn’t bound to hurt the new 2017 Bentley Bentayga.

How fast is it? Well, it’s the first SUV to hit top speeds of 187 mph, doing its cousin, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, a good 12 clicks better in the speedometer. It’s insanely lightweight, too, tipping the scales at an unbelievable 5,000 pounds (a feat achieved through generous use of aluminum throughout the car), making for a pretty mind-blowing luxury ride, all things considered.

The 2017 Bentley Bentayga achieves those high-speeds courtesy of a new W12 TSI engine, which the automaker is hailing as the “most technologically-advanced 12-cylinder” in the planet. Putting out 600 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, it accelerates in impressive fashion, too, clearing 0 to 62 in as little as four seconds. Yes, it comes with all the off-road tech you’d expect from a modern, wallet-busting SUV, from a four-mode adjustable air suspension to electronic active roll control to a whole host of terrain-optimized settings that you can activate depending on where you’re driving.

Inside, you get all the expected opulence. Along with the leather, metal, and wood trims, you get “the most powerful audio system available in an SUV” (a 1,920-watt 21-channel NAIM setup), 4G WiFi hotspot, removable tablets on the headrests for backseat passengers, and tons of driver assistance tech.

Yes, you probably want one. Whether you have the $250,000 or so the 2017 Bentley Bentayga is likely to cost, though, is a whole other story.
