2016 Can-Am Defender Can-Am finally decided to come out with a utility-focused side-by-side and it's a powerful one, with 20 percent more torque than any other UTV available.

Can-Am is well known for making utility task vehicles (UTV) that can’t actually function for any of the more formidable tasks around the farm. Suffice to say, the company makes UTVs for adrenaline junkies, who like to take their side-by-sides for crazy, high-speed adventures across the trail. That changes with the 2016 Can-Am Defender, a utility-focused model that the company claims is built to “take on the most demanding tasks.”

Designed and engineered from the ground up, the new side-by-side boasts “best-in-class towing, hauling, and payload,” with the ability to carry up to 1,000 pounds on the cargo box, as well as tow up to 2,000 pounds behind it. It can do all that with both seats occupied, too, so this is one serious UTV with brutish strength. Whether for hauling large timber to the mill, supplies around the farm, or a small alien spacecraft that crashed in the desert, this thing should handle them without running into many problems.

Powered by a specially-calibrated V-Twin Rotax engine (buyers can opt for either the 50-hp HD8 or 72-hp HD10), the 2016 Can-Am Defender claims to produce 20 percent more torque than its closest competitor, giving it the ability to haul a large amount of weight through any terrain. It comes with a new specially-designed transmission called PRO-TORQ that, as you might have guessed from the name, is designed to optimize the driving experience at high-torque speeds, boasting precise engagement, responsive power delivery, and a smooth ride. Features include a four-mode traction system for adjusting to any terrain, 10 inches of front and rear suspension, 11 inches of ground travel, dynamic power steering, and even a modular storage unit.
