Weiss American Issue Field Watch Another day, another limited issue field watch from Weiss? Not quite, as this one comes with an entirely new US-made mechanical movement.

Just when we thought we’d had enough of Weiss’ Field Watch design, the LA-based watchmakers manage to hook us again. That’s because with the Weiss American Issue Field Watch, they’re ditching the modified ETA 6497 under the dial in favor of an entirely new US-made mechanical movement, making for one special timepiece that collectors may have a hard time passing up on.

Manufactured and assembled in the outfit’s LA studio, the new Caliber 1003 is a gold-plated, manually-wound mechanical movement that vibrates at 18,000 beats per hour and holds a 46-hour power reserve. This will be the first model to house the movement, making it quite the special release and they’re punctuating that by keeping this a closed edition that’s limited to just 50 examples, so there won’t be a lot of the watch to go around.

The Weiss American Issue Field Watch sports a similar dial as the previous versions of the timepiece, although they revised the outer markers to give it a bit of a fresh look. Machined from naval brass, the dial comes hand-painted in a “patriotic blue” background, with silver accents giving it a retro military feel. That dial is hosted inside a 42mm case cast in 316L stainless steel, with sapphire crystal both out front and in the back, so you can watch the movement in action. Features include Super-Luminova on the hands for night-time readability, a water resistance of 330 feet, and a 20mm band cut in a burgundy Horween Shell Cordovan leather.
