New Balance 530 Vazee Sneakers New Balance puts a fresh spin on the 90s-era 530, turning out a shoe that looks and performs like an entirely different model from its retro counterpart.

Yes, it’s easy to associate the retro running shoes in New Balance’s lineup with the kind of shoes you need to be at least in your 40s to appreciate. They’re somewhat bigger, chunkier, and a heck of a lot more comfortable than many shoes littering the market. But what if you reinforced those “dad shoes” with the company’s modern performance tech? That’s what the outfit did with the New Balance 530 Vazee.

Combining the classic 90s-era trainers with a new cushioning system, the silhouette appears like a different model entirely. Seriously, it looks like a modern pair of running shoes instead of a throwback from two decades ago, making for a really dramatic makeover, especially when you consider that it’s, pretty much, just the sole that’s received an overhaul.

The New Balance 530 Vazee uses the same sole unit found in the company’s high-performance Vazee Pace, which lends its technical chops to improve running speed and shoe responsiveness. It features pods on the outsole to help you react in every direction, with a REVlite foam midsole shaving off 30 percent of the weight from the outfit’s traditional foams without sacrificing underfoot cushioning or stability. So far, New Balance has kept other details of the shoe under wraps, which is weird considering it’s dropping on January 1st. Aside from the above information, all we know is it’s coming in the pictured white, purple, and black colorway, which, we have to say, looks way nicer than I ever remember 530s being.
