If you thought Nike wasn’t going to do anything new with Converse other than to bleed the Chuck Taylor and Jack Purcell silhouettes till they’re dry, you’re not alone. Thankfully, that’s not actually the case. In fact, they’re creating an all new collection called Converse Modern, which brings some of the outfit’s classic silhouettes into the modern times. The first to get the treatment is the Converse Auckland Modern, a contemporary version of the 70s-era running shoes.

Combining the classic silhouette with Nike technologies, the shoes receive a much-deserved upgrade, both in terms of looks and performance. Seriously, these things look killer, with a style that should work well, whether you wear them with athletic clothes for a workout or street clothes for a day of playing Pokemon Go around town.

Like many of Nike’s sneakers, the Converse Auckland Modern is getting a new knit material, giving it an upper that’s more lightweight, breathable, and flexible than ever before. It also gets a textured sock liner to ensure comfortable wear, with a mesh lining helping enhance its breathable properties. They pair that upper with a beefy Phylon outsole packing deep flex grooves for plenty of comfort and mobility, along with Nike’s Hyperfuse construction to deliver extra durability and support.
