Citizen Eco-Drive One Limited Edition Watch How slim can a solar-powered watch get? Very, very slim, as Citizen shows in their new 2.98mm-thick timepiece.

Some people like their watches big and burly. Others prefer them with a more slender build.  While we haven’t every seen every single timepiece ever built, we’re pretty sure analog watch cases rarely get slimmer than the Citizen Eco-Drive One Limited Edition.

Billed as “the world’s thinnest light-powered watch,” the solar-powered timepiece has a case measuring just 2.98 mm in thickness. For reference, that’s just a hair thinner than a stack of 30 standard copy paper, making for a seriously lithe and svelte build.  While that’s not quite thin enough to slice something, it sure looks like it can from the product images (at least, you can imagine it in your head).

Citizen’s newest flagship, the Eco-Drive One Limited Edition uses almost entirely all-new components, with most everything from the gears to the coil to the rotor having been designed specifically for this particular model. It was a necessary process to achieve the uncharacteristically slender build, making for quite a special timepiece. Just as impressive, the watch’s quartz movement crams its 85 components into a space just 1 mm thick, with some components assigned multiple functions to achieve its impressively minimal dimensions.

Features include a Cermet case with a binderless cemented carbide bezel (seriously, I have no idea what that is), a sapphire crystal lens with anti-reflective coating, and a black crocodile leather band. Only 800 pieces of the Limited Edition will be made, although stainless steel versions will be available as regular consumer watches.

The Citizen Eco-Drive One Limited Edition Watch is slated to come out in the fourth quarter, priced at $6,000.
