Despite the name, there’s no nuclear reaction going on inside Arcteryx’s Fission Gore-Tex Gloves. Instead, it’s an erstwhile regular pair of gloves designed to deliver serious warmth, while giving your fingers full freedom of movement.

Unlike a lot of winter gloves that restrict movement, these warm hand covers are carefully-shaped to fit your hands and let them move naturally, making for ideal gloves to wear during backcountry adventures. Whether you’re setting up a tent, chopping wood, or working with a survival multi-tool, this thing lets you accomplish them without adding any inconvenience or discomfort.

The Arcteryx Fission Gore-Tex Gloves’ outer uses a stretch softshell material for the hand and wrist, with hardwearing leather on the palm and fingertips to ensure excellent performance when handling abrasive materials and equipment. A Gore-Tex XCR membrane keeps water out while retaining breathability, with three different types of Primaloft insulation providing warmth on both the palm and the back of the hand. For the palm and fingers, specifically, it uses Primaloft Gold, which provides excellent dexterity and grip by reducing slippage between the gloves’ various layers.

Unlike most gloves, it’s designed to resist packing out over repeated use, so it’s able to retain the insulating properties over longer periods. Features include a brushed polyester lining, an elasticized wrist, a long gauntlet with cinch closure to block out snow and wind, and a webbing loop for easily hanging on a carabiner when not in use.

Available now, the Arcteryx Fission Gore-Tex Gloves are priced at $179.
