I always thought old NASA spacesuits were silver in color, so any space aliens that chanced upon them will think that astronauts were steely androids who will robo-nuke them when attacked. Turns out, they were that way because scientists believed that the shade would help reflect the burning rays of the sun. We don’t know if that’s actually been proven or not, but it’s definitely a nice story to have in your pocket while you gallivant around town wearing the Adidas Originals Stan Smith Spacesuit.

A part of the Adidas Originals “Swedish Satellite Pack” collection, it’s a pair of the classic 60s tennis shoes, with the entire upper covered in a spacesuit-like silver hue. No, we doubt it will reflect the burning rays of the sun like they thought back in the day, but it’s a really killer colorway for one of the most popular shoe silhouettes today. Plus, we doubt Skechers has one like it, so there’s that.

The Adidas Originals Stan Smith Spacesuit uses an all-leather upper in a matte silver color, with a detachable Stan Smith patch on the tongue and the side perforations done up as stars instead of regular holes. Yep, it’s a nice-looking shoe with some interesting details. There’s also a Swedish flag embroidered on the heel of the right shoe and the Stars and Stripes on the left, which stands in to symbolize the backstory behind the collection (basically, that funny thing that happened with a NASA astronaut, his Swedish-made Hasselblad camera, and the first Swedish satellite to ever launch in space).
